El complejo deportivo La Manga Golf, en la golfística Comunidad de Murcia, alberga la vigesimoctava edición del Campeonato de Europa Absoluto Femenino por Equipos entre el 6 y el 10 de julio, uno de los torneos más importante del calendario continental, al que las más relevantes golfistas de la vieja Europa acuden con todo el talento e ilusión a cuestas.
El hecho de que muchas jugadoras que hoy día son referencia en el Ladies European Tour, e incluso en el LPGA, hayan defendido en sus años amateurs los colores de sus países en las 27 ediciones anteriores del Campeonato de Europa Femenino por Equipos, habla por sí solo de que significa esta competición.
Tanto para ellas como para el país que lo alberga, consciente de que el torneo es uno de los más importantes del calendario internacional.
En Murcia estarán las clásicas potencias golfísticas de Europa –desde Inglaterra, la más laureada con ocho títulos, hasta Suecia, pasando por España, la ambiciosa anfitriona– y otros países con una tradición en este deporte mucho más reciente.
Todos ellos –Austria, Bélgica, Dinamarca, Inglaterra, Finlandia, Francia, Alemania, Islandia, Irlanda, Italia, Holanda, Noruega, Escocia, España, Suecia, Suiza y Gales– lucharán por un título sin duda alguna tremendamente competido.
Además, el torneo contará con el aliciente añadido de ser un paso más en la consolidación del golf femenino como un gran espectáculo deportivo a nivel internacional. Cada vez son más las mujeres que viven de este deporte y cada es mayor su talento, cuyo punto de partida se pone de manifiesto en torneos de esta envergadura.
La Manga, enclave ideal
La primera semana de julio y La Manga Club como escenario. La premisa no puede ser mejor para las decenas de jugadoras que van a tomar parte de la competición. El microclima que engloba este peculiar enclave de la geografía española –con una brisa que suaviza en gran medida el exigente calor del verano español– será el aliado perfecto de las jugadoras.
Tampoco el campo será excusa para no hacer buenas vueltas, ya que el recorrido Sur del complejo golfístico presentará el mejor estado posible gracias a la preparación exquisita de todo el equipo de La Manga Club. Así pues, con el mejor clima y un campo de ensueño –¡rodeado de dos mares!– se adivinan pocos lugares mejores para disfrutar de cinco intensas jornadas de golf. De ello se encargarán las excelentes golfistas que ya están entre nosotros.
Between July 6th and 10th, the La Manga Club sports resort in the golfing “Mecca” of Murcia, will be playing host to the 28th European Ladies Team Championship, one of the continent’s most important annual events, which attracts the old world’s top women golfers, and all their talent and enthusiasm as well.
The fact that many players who are now key figures in the Ladies European Tour and even the LPGA, formerly defended their countries’ colours during their amateur years in the 27 previous editions of the Ladies European Team Championship, speaks volumes about the significance of this tournament, both for the players themselves and for the host country, conscious of the fact that the tournament is amongst the most important in the international golfing calendar.
The classic European golfing powers will all be in Murcia –from England, the most successful team overall, with eight titles behind them, to Sweden, passing through Spain, the ambitious host nation– and other countries with a much more recent golfing tradition.
All of them –Austria, Belgium, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Sweden and Wales– will be putting up a great fight for what is sure to be a fiercely contested title.
The tournament also has the added appeal of being another step towards the consolidation of the ladies’ game as a major sporting attraction at international level. More and more women are earning a living from the sport and their talent is ever increasing, the starting point for which is evident in tournaments of this calibre.
La Manga, the ideal setting
The first week in July and La Manga Club as the setting. Conditions couldn’t be better for the dozens of players who will be taking part in the competition. The unique microclimate that swathes this singular part of Spain –with a gentle breeze that goes a long way towards appeasing the arduous heat of the Spanish summer– will be the perfect ally for the players.
The course certainly won’t be an excuse for not scoring a good round, as the resort’s South Course will be in the best possible condition thanks to painstaking preparation by the entire team at La Manga Club. With a superb climate and a real dream of a course –surrounded by two seas!– there can be few finer places to enjoy five intense days of golf. Something that the outstanding lady golfers who are already with us will be seeing to.
